Keep Yourself Organized! - A Fundamental Habit For Your Company's Success

Your space is your sanctuary. Make sure it's a place where you can work in peace and with focus. If you can't find it in less than a couple of seconds, your bound to feel frustrated eventually.

Having a clean space is one of the most important habits you can build as a business owner. A messy desk is the formula for incoming failure. Just image yourself sifting through piles of files not knowing where you left the document just used five minutes ago. What a nightmare! Ask yourself sincerely, how are you to operate effectively if you can't find anything?

Where to Start?

Have yourself a dedicated space for every aspect of your business. Be it for art, accounting and follow ups, whatever detailed part of your business you can think of needs a space for it to breath and manage. Always be ready to maintain it and keep it up to date

Start with all the little things and build your way up. Everything needs its space. So give every item you have its dedicated space.

If you simply don't have the space or would love to have even less clutter then moving into digital realms of sorting and organizing is a great way to keep things clean and environmentally friendly as well. The world definitely needs less stuff so do the world a favor and throw away whatever you don't need and have it replaced in software.

The more work you have, the more you'll need to create easier ways to reduce the complexity of your business operations. But with experience and as I've done for myself, you'll start to automatically develop formulas and systems that save you time and the never ending dread of constant work. When you reach a point of comfort in your organizing, always think of new ways to make it better and personalized to your lifestyle. Once you have something that's solid then start to delegate it to someone else. That way you'll be able to focus on more aspects of your business.

Remember that your working to have a life and not the other way around. Making your business smoother gives you space to work on the fun aspects in your business. Staying in the mundane parts can definitely sap you of motivation and passion over the long term.

“Organize EVERYTHING!!!”

It can be quite a drastic change once you complete the organizing process. Using every bit of space can prove to have more room than you first thought.

Like developing your skills as a photographer, the same applies for your organizational skills as well. Focus on building a solid habit in collecting and storing everything you do. Be it in your research for creative projects or the numbers and figures in your business.

All the loose notes and ideas we get through all the avenues of inspirations should be eventfully typed out and ordered in a clear and concise way. Ideas will be coming and going all the time but having a way to put them somewhere for future reference will give you a great store house of ideas to use as you collect and apply new ideas.

“But Don't Start Micromanaging…”

No one likes the feeling of being watched 24/7. Especially when your watching yourself. Allow the room to breath and don't be to fussy with always making things perfect. We all want things to be done well but give yourself the room to grow and be open for new and more important tasks.

We might fool ourselves with clean looking desks but if you get into the details of every section, notebook and binder chances are your space needed cleaning after all. But don't spend all your time just organizing. Remember that it's only just a tool to have time for what you love to do and do it best.

Many times I've caught myself shuffling papers here and there and thinking I've actually accomplished something. Always be focused on how your business can expand and move forward. Not everything needs to manically organized all the time. Then again you can even be procrastinating all day with organizing things here and there which I've been completely guilty of doing from time to time.

Focus on the growth of your company. That may involve having your things in order but there are other things just as important that need your attention such as getting clients in your door and shooting. Things that make the real money! Organizing makes your experience more enjoyable but it's only a back office task when you look at the whole picture of your business structure.

As you grow in your management of running your services it's important to keep all the aspects of your business under control and moving along as smooth as possible. But start with a little each day and by the end of your year you'll be able to do more in less time.

Remember that it's a tool but keep yourself detached to being over tidy and know that all parts of your business need equal attention so build the right habits and create a solid foundation to move your business on to the next level!

Keep Snappin'!
