Finding A Role Model And Mentor - Discovering The Ways To Knowledge

The power and knowledge you can access through a mentor can be beyond anything you've ever thought was possible. You'd be amazed by some of the heights and levels that can be attained when remaining humble and keeping an open mind with those who have walked the path before you.

Doing things yourself can be a fun challenge. To be able to discover the paths of a new career or hobby is a fun process. But like everything we explore, we sometimes reach a point where there seems to be nothing left to discover. Reaching a plateau in what we pursue to be great and what we practice feels like we're falling behind if we're not advancing beyond that point. The reasons we have schools and courses is not just to learn about the content. It's also about the teacher who helps you understand the concepts. Every great master started off with a teacher or mentor to enable him or her to reach their full potential showing you knowledge that took them probably decades to understand.

“Go beyond the beaten path”

First thing we need to know is not everyone needs a mentor in the classical sense of the term. There are tons of books and courses online you have access to if you need a quick solution to a mentor. See it as every piece of information being a peek into the the writer and teacher's mind. Having books around and learning on a daily basis will definitely help you fill the gaps in your journey of learning. The only drawback is the obvious no contact with the mind your tapping into. But it is the fastest and cheapest way to access the information you probably would have taken your whole life to figure out.

Internships are a great way to be of service for knowledge. Remember to be as professional as possible in your approach. Give, Give, Give!

The hardest but most beneficial way would be to have yourself an actual mentor. Someone who you can see on a timely basis and pick their brain. Of course most are not available in this way but with a lot of perseverance you can eventually be under the wing of a great mentor. Just remember how much your willing to give and learn. As you attain new knowledge think of ways where you can be a benefit to them as well. Become an asset to their life. As you receive always be open to create actions that benefit him or her as well. That way they'll be glad to have you around creating a mutual exchange in companionship.

“There’s always a back or side if the front door is locked”

If your still having a hard time finding someone to guide you then consider actually paying someone to give you the knowledge your looking for. It might be hard for you to dish out your hard earned cash but trust me in the end it's worth more than any education you've paid for. Being one on one with someone who has ten to twenty years ahead of you is a treasure trove to your findings. Think about how fast you’ll be able to progress if you did it all yourself. You paying not just for the information but the ability to cut your learning curve dramatically.

One of the best things I've learned is to always have an open mind. Ask a ton of questions even when on the job. Most are willing to share what they know.

You'll have to be picky with who you choose though. To be honest, not everyone will qualify. Being a real mentor takes a lot of commitment and work. A lot of photographers would love to be mentors to other aspiring creatives but the truth is it does take work on their part as well. On top of being busy with all the clients, contacts and team members they manage having someone at the bottom end looking for something to gain can seem unappealing. So always come forth with how much you can give over what you can get. If you can just be present to their sessions, being in the atmosphere will always benefit no matter if your being directed. Analyze and absorb all that's around you. Know that learning can be acquired in unlimited ways. All you need to do is be open to find the lessons in the moment.

Remember that not everyone can be your actual coach but all people in life have something to teach you. If you can find that bit of information away from the traditional sense of directing you in one way then the world itself is the playground for your knowledge. Everyone has something you don't know and the same applies for them as well. Be open to give what you know and you'll be surprised at how much others will feel genuinely willing to give that same amount right back. All you have to do is ask. In your words and in your actions.

Keep Snappin'!
