Do What's Hard! Build a Tough Skin! - Becoming Stronger Through The Journey

Going through the tough stuff can make you feel down even to the point of anger and distress. But eventually with time the scars we get from moving in the trenches will come out to be a blessing from all the hard earned experience.

Let's face it, nothing comes easy in life. Especially the things we really want. Not just because they're hard to get but also because a lot of people inherently want the same things. Be it the fashion cover, the high end wedding or the documentary tour in foreign lands, there's a lot of people striving for that little millimeter of space you work everyday to have your place in. So what makes one different from the other beside you? It's your ability to work. Against all odds and obstacles to keep going no matter the shut downs or the mistakes and failures you gain along the way.

“Where’s Your Destination?”

Life will pull you in many directions expecting you to be good at many things. Be okay with losing focus from time to time. There's only one of us and it take super human ability to be on top of it all 24/7. Give yourself some compassion when needed.

All of us have dreams. Be it big or small we naturally want a better life for ourselves. Many want to the be the next big thing, the famous one, the person they look up to but so does a billion other people as well. Especially in the fields that are the most fun. Hate to break it to you but being an artist comes with a lot of other fellow artists wanting to make the same imprint as you. To be innovative, to be seen as a legend. I've had my fair share of moments looking into a Vogue or Rolling Stone magazine and thinking to myself, "Wow...I want to do that! Let's make it happen!" A lot of enthusiasm also comes with the harsh reality of learning and gaining experience in which every niche you get into is bound to be a bumpy ride.

But you know what? That's what makes the striving and struggling so amazing! Most things that come easy in my life were are generally taken for granted after the spell of unfamiliarity wears off. But the things we work for? Well after all the time getting to the top of that seemingly never ending mountain, we tend to cherish it much more. Praising in gratitude for the gift received after all this time with a healthy slice of humble pie.

“Love and Cherish Whatever Comes Along The Way”

With every failure came with it the gift of experience and new ways of looking at myself and my art as a photographer. It's important to always be into new things and being okay with failure as they naturally come up. If I kept doing the same things over and over without the focus of improvement and progression then losing motivation becomes the end result of such abandonment. Going the opposite way in my progress and separating myself from the visions and dreams we have is a hard life to continue living in.

Your hardest moments will be the ones where your lessons will be made. We all come to a point where we need to look inside of yourselves and find our strength. Listen to the soft voice inside during these moments. They will shift you in the right direction.

Building a tough skin may be relevant to your profession but it goes way beyond that portion of your life and into the totality of it. Change and growth must be applied to all aspects in your life. That way it can feed into all the parts of you while supporting any lack you perceive during the hard times of experience. Be it your health, your finances or your relationships. Finding better ways is a constant never ending practice. Getting the first couple of falls does hurt but with every scar comes with it a scab that heals and is stronger than it was before. After awhile it won't hurt so much when you do fall again creating resilience to such pain.

Take responsibility of yourself and your life. Vow to commit yourself to greatness in whatever way that rings true to you. No matter the problem you can figure it out. No matter how large the "problem" in time the effort to solve it will make you smarter. By the end of it you come up with a little more knowledge and just a bit more experience with a new found confidence to make a difference. Not just for others but for yourself as a shining example of always striving to be your greatest version.

Keep Snappin'!
